...I pulled it apart today and moved the switch, full exposure control restored as well as a few other features. This removes the preset limitations. I took a few digital cam pictures during the process. Trick is undo screws, pull off the front carefully, then there are further screws inside (x2) which hold the main body together (2 parts).
